Medicare Part C / Medicare Advantage

Medicare Part C, or Medicare Advantage, is Medicare administered through private insurance companies. Part C works somewhat differently than Original Medicare (Parts A and Part B), but, by law, it is at least as good as Original Medicare. Part C often includes all elements of original Medicare plus Part D, or prescription drug coverage.

  Why choose Medicare Advantage plans?

People join Medicare Advantage plans for a variety or reasons, but the primary two reasons are cost savings and protection. The former head of Medicare, Mark McClellan, MD, recently stated that people save an average of $86 a month (about $1,000 a year) by enrolling in a Part C plan. In addition, many Part C plans protect Medicare recipients against the potentially unlimited out-of-pocket medical costs associated with Original Medicare, by having an annual cap on out-of-pocket expenses.

Who is right for Medicare Advantage plans?

Part C plans are not for everyone, but they do meet the needs of many Medicare recipients who want financial protection, good healthcare, and the opportunity to save money. For free help navigating Medicare and choosing a health insurance policy that meets your needs, click here.
